Night Shift Asphalt Supplies Manager

As a result of progressive growth within the Midlands Region, my client is looking for an experienced Manager to join the night shift production and contracts team. Coordinating night shift asphalt supplies, laying operations and overseeing product quality.
Covering the East and the West Midlands you will be responsible for the project management of a number of sites, to deliver the most cost-effective solutions.

This contract is initially on a 6 month temporary basis with the view to make the position permanent for the right candidate. 

Job Role:

  • Close communication with distribution office, production plants and weighbridge operatives to ensure there is a clear understanding of the material requirements, logistics of sites and communicating with sites management to make aware of any changes and react to variations in program.
  • Coordinating with Site Management to ensure that the areas to be surfaced have sufficient resource and traffic management is adequately in place.
  • Ensuring that traffic management, along with access and egress on site has been agreed and is clear to ensure haulage have the information for safe delivery of site material and haulage Operatives have been health and Safety inducted on the relevant schemes.
  • To support Health & Safety practices within all operations and address any issues promptly.
  • Gather information during the course of the night works and relay back to the weighbridge and operating plant to ensure they are reactive to any site issues which may require prompt recalculation of supply volumes.
  • Closely monitor the production of asphalt and decide on the most appropriate action to be taken if a second plant is required to fulfil the required volume of materials in the event of a breakdown or other unforeseen delay.
  • Discuss and engage with the technical department to establish that the material is being dispatched within the required temperature range and is deemed visually acceptable. As samples are obtain discuss test results and trends to enable adjustment of blends on the asphalt plant if or propose changes for the following nights supply.
  • Produce site Inspection reports, commenting on site conditions and laying practices.
  • Inspecting freshly laid material to ensure it is meeting the required compliance and specification from the site testing conducted and report any anomalies.  
  • In the event of defective material laid discuss with site management on a course of remedial action to ensure costs are minimized and undue site delays are not encountered.
  • On completion of nightly works, collate records and electronically report information regarding all aspects of the night’s production and site inspections to relevant personnel.

Candidate requirements:

  • Full UK driving licence as travel is essential for this role.
  • The ability to work in any condition.
  • The passion to progress and learn.
  • CSCS card essential.
  • Ability to produce clear and detailed management reports.


£35k – £42k per annum depending on experience. Self employed consultants may also apply on a negotiable nightly rate. Company vehicle provided from business travel.
